KWENDA High School recently hosted its annual Prize Giving Day, celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students.
The prize giving ceremony recognized students who excelled in various fields, including academics, sports and extracurricular activities.
The school headmaster, Mr Chiwenga, congratulated the prize winners, emphasizing the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
“Our school opened its doors to secondary education way back in 1969. Ever since it has continually marked its name among the Who is Who in the provision of inclusive, quality, equitable, relevant and Heritage-based secondary and non-formal education in our nation.
“All along since 1893, it had been restricted to Primary and tertiary education and has transited to Primary and Secondary. We stand ready and equal to the provision of a Heritage driven education for socially and economically empowered society by 2030. Despite the prevailing socio-economic situation as we approach the end of NDS1, our school has managed to retain 950 students this year (2025), an increase from 898 in 2024. Of these 451 are boys and 499 are girls.
“We have a staff complement of 37 dedicated and committed teaching and 33 devoted non-teaching members.
“A lot has happened since last year. In the academic sector this year, we got 98.74% up from 97.67% at O level and 100% at A Level just as last year. Please note that the 100% was also attained in 2022. Twenty nine candidates out of 78 had 15 points and above.75 out of 78 having 10 points and above. We are working on producing more quality results. Only two candidates failed to pass. We aim at improving the quality and relevance of the education delivery system at our school.
“Ebenezer the Lord has allowed us to witness yet another occasion where we are celebrating a year well spent and highly achieved,” he said.
Kwenda High School has made significant progress in enhancing its infrastructure and facilities.
Some notable projects include the purchase of a 72-seater bus, paving of pathways, installation of solar systems, and construction of a semi-detached staff house.
The school reported impressive academic results, with 98.74% pass rate at O-level and 100% pass rate at A-level. Students also excelled in sports, with the athletics team performing well and the U17 beach volleyball team proceeding to the national level.
The school principal Rev. J Mangiza emphasized the importance of discipline and character development, encouraging students to uphold the values of Unhu/Ubuntu.
“This is the time to measure your standard, your performance and to candidates to measure your preparedness for public examinations. Preparations are not fully done until you finish writing your examinations. I am aware about the trajectory we have as a school that we need 15 pointers at lower and upper six, 8 ‘A’s at form 3 and 4, 6 ones at Form 0ne and Two learners. It is a tall order I should admit, but if someone did it why can’t you? With a bit of focus on your studies, you will make it at Kwenda High. It is a beacon of excellence, a school of choice. Through Kwenda High we are an oasis of life, peace, justice and hope. We strive to win and nurture souls for Christ.
“Congratulations to learners who made it. Don’t relax saying I am generous. You need to keep up the standard. Others excelled in athletics, ball games, mass display pursue your field of interest you will make it. For those who did not make it this year, never give up. With God everything is possible. Is God impossible? Hence we talk of trusting God in all circumstances: Habakkuk 3:17-18. Keep on trying, you will make it. Martin Luther King Junior says, ‘If you can’t fly, run, if you can’t run, walk, if you can’t walk, scroll, what is important is keep on moving.’
The chairperson, Mr Chitauro, urged students to stay focused on their studies, shun drug and substance abuse, and cultivate good habits.
The event highlighted the importance of parent and community involvement in the education of children.
The DC Chairperson encouraged parents to continue supporting their children morally, spiritually, and financially.
The ceremony concluded with a message of hope and inspiration by the guest of honour Denford Musariri who encouraged students to stay focused, work hard, and pursue their passions. Musariri is a former student at Kwenda High School. He narrated the hardships he faced growing up.
The event was a celebration of excellence and a testament to the school’s commitment to providing quality education and nurturing well-rounded individuals.
