The Joy of Consecration: Muda Church in Chihota Circuit Officially Dedicated to the Glory of God
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there” (2 Chronicles 7:14-16).
The echoes of the above extract from the second book of Chronicles sounded in the ears and hearts of members of Chihota Circuit, Muda Society in particular, on the 12th of April 2026 when the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Revd. S. Sithole was dedicating the Muda Church. Indeed God consecrated the church so that His name be there forever. Chronicling how the work was done, Mrs P. Munyenyiwa, the Building Committee secretary, highlighted that this beautiful house of God was built through the sacrifices of church members themselves, sons and daughters of Muda Society who are dotted all over the world, as well as other local community leaders. The daughters and sons who participated during the construction of this sanctuary did so in honour of their late grandparents who were the once the pioneers in the establishment of Muda Society and the families include the Mupazviribwo, Kaseke, Mazhindu, Kepekepe Mungofa, Kepekepe Phinious, Zhakata, Luwaca, Sichori, Manjengwa, Gohori, Chakachadza, Zimbiru, Kwenda Jeremiah, Chirenje, Mavhunga, Kuuya, Mukwata, Dude, Goredema, Mhlanga, Muhove, Toyendepi, Kachito, Muzambwa, Mhori, Nduru, Munyawiri, and Frances families. Indeed they did a great job.
Speaking at the function, the District Bishop, Revd. M. Madiye highlighted that what happened at Muda during the construction of the church building was not ordinary and unheard of if we are to trace the history and processes of how other church buildings have been constructed in the connexion. It is not ordinary in the sense that it took only 12 months from the time the project commenced up to the time it was dedicated. How great is our God.
The Presiding Bishop delivered a powerful and challenging sermon to the congregation. In his sermon, he bemoaned the lack of young people in the church, i.e. at Muda Society, saying that if the current crop of church members do not rise up to the occassion quickly in luring young generations to church, this beautiful church building will be a ghost structure in the very near future. Everyone was challenged. The Presiding Bishop went on to dedicate the beautiful Pulpit that was bought in a bid to make everything match the standard of a new church.
Also in attendance at the occasion were Marondera District Lay President, Mr. Jambawo, the former Chihota Circuit Supt Revd Makore, and the entire Chihota Circuit executive. Winding up the event, the Society blessed its preachers and other members from other surrounding church denominations that had come to grace the event with brand new Bibles. Now that the church is dedicated, everyone is invited to come to Chihota Circuit where God officially resides.
