A media workshop was held from the 22-24 May 2026 at Ndhlela Centre in Gweru which was the first of its kind where media personnel from all the Districts in the Methodist Church Zimbabwe connexion were gathered. The purpose of this workshop was to equip the media team with necessary skills that enable them to carry out their duties in their respective Circuits/Districts.
The program line up was packed with lessons that were enriching to the participants and these included: communication, livestreaming film and editing, photography and social media management to mention a few.
The Media, Research and Publications Coordinator Revd O. Chagudhuma presented theological reflections on the MCZ logo which is key in the media department because the media people are the custodians of the church logo. The lesson enlightened the people on the meaning of the logo and the its true identity. He emphasized that the church logo speaks to the stakeholders and members of the organisation thus it has to be simple and not cause confusion.
Another lesson on social media management presented by Mr L. Magaya was an eye opener to the participants as it helped the people to understand that digital presence matters in this day and age. The emphasis was on the message being communicated through the various social media such as Facebook YouTube e.tc. Maintaining professionalism is key by being original and authentic communicating the message in a clear and concise way.
Other lessons that were presented include: Communication presented by the Communications Officer Revd A. Mpaso. His presentation focused on defining communication and emphasized on effective communication which is key to a clear, concise and complete message. To compliment this, were also lessons presented by other facilitators on news writing, lighting and presentation, graphic designing and photography which are the ways by which the media personnel use to communicate to the members and stakeholders of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.
The workshop was graced by the presence of the Gweru District Bishop Revd F. Mafukidze who encouraged the participants to utilise the media to spread the gospel. He also spoke of the need to resource Media, Research and Publication department and encouraged media personnel to keep on the good work.
